The field is split on the morning of Day 1 via peer vote and snake draft, and the live scorecard tracks every match from there through to Sunday's result.
Instead of preset teams, captains are chosen by the field on the Friday morning — whoever the group votes for leads a side. The two captains then alternate picks in a snake draft until all 14 players are allocated.
Three days of competition follow: Friday match play, Saturday scramble, Sunday Stableford. Points accumulate across all three rounds — the team with the most points lifts the cup.
Three days, three different formats, one running points total. Here's exactly how each day pays points, plus the bonus and house rules that apply on top.
Twelve players (Cayden Woods & Ben Lepore join the field Saturday) across six 1v1 singles matches. Each match splits into a front 9 and a back 9, each worth 1 point to the winning team — 0.5pt each if a nine is halved. 12 points are up for grabs across the six matches.
Handicap strokes are allocated by the standard difference-in-handicap method: the lower-handicap player plays off scratch, and the higher-handicap player receives one stroke on every hole — plus a second stroke on the lowest-stroke-index holes — for as many holes as the rounded handicap difference between the two players requires.
Each team splits into a group of 4 and a group of 3, each playing a scramble and returning one net score to par per group. The group's team handicap is worked out from its players' individual handicaps using the standard Australian Ambrose percentages — 25/20/15/10 for a four, 30/20/10 for a three — applied lowest-handicap-first.
In each grouping — the two 4s against each other, the two 3s against each other — the team with the better net score wins points equal to the stroke differential between the two results. Whichever team's combined 4 + 3 score is better also takes a flat 5-point bonus.
Every player's own showing at the national anthem before Saturday's round kicks off adjusts their team's scores individually: +2 strokes if you didn't sing it, −1 stroke if you did. It's added straight to both of your team's scramble group scores (four-ball and three-ball) — not to anyone's handicap, and not just to whichever of those two groups you're personally playing in.
All fourteen players return their own net Stableford score. Finishing position pays points straight into that player's team total — highest score is 1st:
| Pos | Pts | Pos | Pts |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1st | 14 | 8th | 7 |
| 2nd | 13 | 9th | 6 |
| 3rd | 12 | 10th | 5 |
| 4th | 11 | 11th | 4 |
| 5th | 10 | 12th | 3 |
| 6th | 9 | 13th | 2 |
| 7th | 8 | 14th | 1 |
Players tied on score share the average of the points their tied positions cover.
Two par-3 holes each day carry a Nearest the Pin bonus, worth 1 point to the winner's team — 6 points up for grabs across the weekend on top of the day scores above:
Points from all three days — match play, scramble, and Stableford, plus every Nearest the Pin bonus — add up to one running total per team, tracked live on the live scorecard. Whichever team has more points after Sunday's presentation wins the Wonga Cup. Level on points after all three days? It's settled by a sudden-death putt-off on the spot.
The live scoring tool is open now — follow the draft, then every match as it happens.
